News and Achievements

Move over, Research Triangle Park — the Innovation Crescent is making its mark. The Innovation Crescent was unveiled this summer as the brand name for the geographic area extending from metro Atlanta to Athens. Read more.

The Georgia Cancer Coalition has named The University of Georgia scientists John Vena, Jason Zastre and Claire Robb distinguished cancer scholars for 2008-09. Read more.

Georgia is ranked 7th in total number of life science companies in the country, and has seen a 140 percent growth in the life science industry since 1993. More than 250 life science companies call the Innovation Crescent home. Read more


Georgia has the 4th largest public university system in the nation, and the region ranks 7th in the nation in producing college and university graduates with a bachelor's degree or higher. $1.01 billion is spent by the region's colleges and universities on research and development, with approximately half on life science research. Read more.	Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the world's busiest, offering convenient direct connections to countries worldwide. Atlanta is one of only five cities in the U.S. served by three major interstate highways, and one of five with a rapid rail station inside the airport terminal. Read more. The Innovation Crescent is specifically aligned to the life science industry, with specialized training certification programs to ensure there is a skilled labor pool for highly regulated life science clinical, research and manufacturing facilities.
